The area

The city lies between the two highest peaks of this mountain rnage, the 1244 m high mountain Keilberg and the 1214 m high Fichtelberg and is beautifully nestled in a natural setting.The mountain air is healthy because the ridge line area and the Fichtelberg are almost dust and pollution free! If you like to go ghost hunting in mysterious ruins, it’s advisable to visit the castles and chateaus of Zschopautal. Starting with Castle Wolkenstein, a chain of distinctive castles and chateaus runs through the valley. In addition there’s the castle Scharfstein, Castle Wildeck Zschopau and from a distance the easily visible and  monumental hunting lodge Augustusburg.
